Avoid Burnout

Rest is an underrated part of training. Our bodies need it, and our minds need it. Rest is important not only to avoid injuries, but to avoid burnout. Burnout and other symptoms of overtraining can creep up on you. Before you recognize it, you just don’t feel like training at all anymore. Most of the time an extended break can cure burnout, but it’s better to avoid getting there in the first place. This is why it’s important to honestly assess your mental and physical state. Are you excited to train when you arrive at the school? Are your nagging pains getting worse? Many of us fear being “left behind” if we miss a class or classes. It’s important to remember that everyone’s journey in martial arts is individual and unique. Taking a day off isn’t a bad thing…in fact, it can be good! It’s partially why the school closes periodically for holidays. But if you are feeling a little burnt out, take a day or two off. Or cross train! Sometimes all it takes to get some energy back for training is to simply try something new. Elite Training Center offers classes in jiu jitsu, Krav Maga, Muay Thai kickboxing, Kali, and MMA. We’ve even added Warrior Yoga, a blend of Silat and yoga! Step out of your comfort zone and try a new martial art. It’ll challenge your mind and body as well as make you a more complete martial artist. And as you begin to train in more arts, you’ll start to see how they all work together and complement each other.

Be responsible for the health of your body and mind, and proactively search to find solutions to fatigue and burnout! Rest and cross training are two possible solutions, but we’re all different. Be creative in finding ways to keep yourself challenged and engaged…you’ll be happier and progress faster for the effort!
