Krav Maga and Muay Thai at Elite Training Center

Learn Self Defense, Get Fit, and Train With South Bay’s Best Self Defense and Fitness

Hermosa Beach’s Elite Training Center will be offering Krav Maga and Muay Thai Kickboxing. As mentioned in previous posts, Muay Thai is a very important component in our system of Krav Maga. Being able to strike properly, recognize and/or read movement of an attacker or opponent as well as clinch work are essential to understanding self-defense. Applying multiple systems to any training will lead you to being more capable.

There is no perfect art. We can only hope to fill the gaps in systems where there are flaws. Similar to an MMA fighter, we encourage people to train in everything to not simply survive, but thrive.

Now being in a place like Hermosa, is there much of a call for self defense? We say everyone needs self defense and fitness. We don’t wake up expecting to be attacked. We go through a routine. I would rather be prepared in a place like Hermosa Beach where rarely do bad things happen, but when they do it stands out (shark bit a guy…not sure if Krav Maga can fend off sharks, but we do teach eye gouges and throat strikes)

Within all of your training, having a top notch cardiovascular system on top of a skill set will make you more effective under duress. Take for instance the MMA practitioner or Muay Thai fighter; their cardiovascular systems are so finely tuned in order to overcome the adrenaline loss once their fights begin. What makes the Krav Maga player any different? Is it a mindset? Many would say so. But what happens when the call of duty rings out and a person has to stay in the fight to protect others? There is no towel to throw in. There is only a “never quit” attitude and a lot of cardio that has to come into play.

Take the time to push yourself through the most uncomfortable times physically. That additional weight training day or hill sprint day that the MMA or Muay Thai fighter is putting in could make all the difference in whether they win or lose a ring fight, the street is much more unforgiving.
