Going from Pads to People

Although padwork is crucial for understanding form accuracy and technique….Padwork doesn’t have the same effect as moving around with a partner sparring or drilling back and forth. The most difficult transition from mostly doing padwork to sparring or doing drills is distancing, timing and targeting… Sparring allows you to react, see and of course, get hit. Which is important to get the feeling of getting hit, so that you can learn to finish your combination or counter back the right way. Sparring teaches you how to be yourself. To move in your own personalized way. Every fighter is different and has preferences about certain techniques and movements that work specifically for him/her. and the only way to know what you like or don’t like is by doing it, experiencing it, and practicing constantly!!!
So in conclusion what I’m trying to say here is do it all and don’t be afraid of it. All sparring, getting hit failing techniques in live practice. All that’s going to do is make you better, stronger, tougher. Remember mistakes happen but the more you make happen from those mistakes are what counts in making you a better fighter/practitioner!
