Situational Awareness
In lieu of recent events, situational awareness can be your best asset. Whether training in Krav Maga, MMA, Muay Thai, Kali, or Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu BJJ each system offers self awareness as an essential component to survival and/or winning.
The latest shooting at the Naval facility demonstrated that even secure facilities are subject to an active threat. The shopping mall in Kenya was a premium example of an active threat in an unsecured area. This got me thinking about all the places we visit daily, work, school, and stores. If we stay aware of our surroundings and learn a few basic principles, we can increase our chances of survival. DHS put out a video, *Run, Hide, Fight* that can be seen by clicking on the link:

The DHS video scenario is similar to the Naval facility attack.
This second video is brought to you by Alon Stivi, an Israeli CQB and security specialist. Please click on the link:

Although the writing for this week’s Blog is short, the videos will take some time to complete. At Elite Training Center we don’t just post useless information. Any semblance of scenario based training which can increase your chances for success are paramount. So please set the time aside and watch the videos, and then play scenarios in your mind as you complete your daily activities. Think of how you would exit your office, store, movie theater. Where you could hide. What items are available for self-defense. What would you say to people near you to get them on the same page as you. During the mall shooting in Kenya, families played dead, people climbed into the air vents. Do what ever you need to do to survive. Be as creative as possible. Discuss strategies with your family, friends and co-workers. Cut and paste this blog and e-mail it to people you care about. Be aware – Plan – Stay safe.
