The Goal of Perfection

Everyone always wants to be perfect at what they are doing which is completely understandable.  I’m as guilty of it as everyone else.  However, it’s important to be realistic about that goal too.  You shouldn’t expect that the first time you do something (say a martial arts technique) that it will be perfect.  If that was true, everyone would have a black belt.  All the curriculums are structured so that you see each technique at least three times and that’s because we don’t expect it to be perfect the first time.  What’s more important than striving for perfection is striving for improvement.  Make sure you practice and train and when you do a technique, choose one or two things about that technique to really focus on and improve.  If you do that, it will reach perfection before you know it.  You’ll also find that much more manageable than trying to make every part of the technique perfect each time you work on it.

That being said, I’ve been very impressed with the level of hard work and skill that I’ve been seeing in the basic kickboxing class.  You all look great!  Good job and keep it up!
