Tony Pacenski Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu New Look New Direction
With close to 20 Years of experience in Jiu-Jitsu from Brazil, I grow up in this art during of time of instructors that had their own logo. Often the logo was connected to their academy and team. Many professors related their designs to different types of animals such as a bear, monkey, snake and dog. Other symbols were of shapes, words and jiu-jitsu fighters. The command theme in the jiu-jitsu community has been the triangle.
Recently I was sent a cease and desist letter from the Machado Jiu-Jitsu LLC. I have always respected the Machado family and quickly called Carlos and his lawyer to resolve the issue with the use my logo and of his. After speaking with their lawyer, the suggestion was to change the color patterns (original the Brazilian Flag colors) and revise my logos to avoid the circle shape. My new logo is now black and white. It makes effective use of the triangle in the background. The position of the two fighters is the 50/50 guard and the symbolism continues to showcase my roots, strong base, advancement to modern jiu-jitsu, the BJJ Revolution Team, Soulfight.net, and the yin and yang principles found in Martial Arts. Look at the two fighters again to see the yin and yang.
My original logo of the Brazilian flag colors I really enjoyed. However, I do understand the issue the logo created with the Machado Jiu-Jitsu family after speaking with their lawyer. Therefore, I present the new look and new direction I am heading with my personal brand to identify: Tony Pacenski Jiu-Jitsu or Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. The funny thing is all of this comes during a time of major transition in my Martial Arts career. And all of you will have to wait and see what that is!
